Light and Bright Sycamore

Updated: Apr 4

We have a stunning selection of Rippled Sycamore in stock at present!

"Rippled" is an unusual and very beautiful wavy figure, appears, as the name suggests, like water Ripples/waves across the grain. Caused by natural variations in the alignment of wood fibres during growth, Rippled Sycamore is highly sought after, especially for musical instruments and cabinet fronts. Figure will become much more pronounced after polishing. Visit and view our Rippled Sycamore while stocks last - small amount available online.

Best Practices for Sycamore

Handy guide from ASHS (Association of Scottish hardwood Sawmillers) for the best practice for processing Scottish grown Sycamore.

This guide looks at the benefits and uses of Sycamore timber and goes through the specific processing, storing and drying requirements needed to get the best result from your Sycamore logs.

Scottish grown Sycamore timber used to be heavily sought after throughout Europe. However, over the last 20 years interest in this beautiful timber has dwindled, storm Arwen resulted in a lot of windblown Sycamore that was left to rot or processed as Firewood. ASHS want to reignite interest in this beautiful and versatile timber. This guide looks at the benefits and uses of Sycamore timber and goes through the specific processing, storing and drying requirements needed to get the best result from your Sycamore logs.

Best practices for Sycamore processes are also used at Scottish Wood for our own Sycamore supply - Sycamore stock is available to all from our Timber-shop, mixed stock shed and rough sawn stores Monday to Thursday 8am to 4pm and the 1st Saturday of the month 9am to 2pm.
