Quick Contact

At Scottish Wood, we supply homegrown Scottish timber beams, posts, and frames for a wide range of projects, from decking and pergolas to fencing, timber framing, and bespoke joinery. Our timber is locally sourced, sustainably produced, and milled in-house, ensuring high quality, durability, and traceable provenance.

Beams, posts, and frames are sawn to order and can be left rough sawn or planed depending on your project requirements. We supply a variety of homegrown hardwoods and softwoods – most commonly Scottish Larch, Oak, and Douglas Fir.

Larch & Douglas Fir beams, posts & frames

Most commonly, we supply posts, beams and framing material in Scottish Larch or Douglas Fir.

Larch and Douglas Fir are both considered premium softwoods due to their strength and natural durability – meaning they don’t require protective treatment for use in outdoor environments.

When used in external conditions outdoors, and above ground, well installed heartwood Larch should have a life expectancy of 15 – 30 years.

Oak beams, posts & frames

We also supply Scottish Oak for solid oak beams, posts, and frames. These are cut to order, and supplied as green oak (unseasoned).

Oak is a highly durable timber which can sustain a lifetime measured in decades. Many of Scotland’s ancient buildings are built from oak that is now hundreds of years old.

Other hardwood beams, posts & frames

Besides Oak, we can supply cut to order posts, beams and frames in other homegrown hardwood species such as Ash, Beech, Sycamore and Elm.

These hardwoods are non-durable, meaning they are only suitable for indoor application.
