What we do best – timber with character!

At Scottish Wood we specialise in homegrown hardwoods. Scottish hardwoods are full of natural character and individuality – and the level of character found in the boards we sell is one of the things that makes us stand out from the mainstream timber industry.

Live edges, natural edges, waney edges

Straight edges on timber are extremely versatile – and we sell a lot of straight edge options in our shop and online; but you can buy straight edges from loads of places! With us, you can find boards and offcuts in a huge variety of shapes: straight edge, waney edge; live edge; one of each; natural edges all around… We’ve got something of everything, and each piece is unique and full of character.

Our live edge boards

When we’re processing boards to be added to the timber shop or online shop, we make sure that we’re stocking a good variety of both live and straight edge options.

Live edge boards from our timber shop are perfect for:

  • Live edge shelving: boards with a single live edge are perfect for natural edge shelves – putting them up is also a very friendly and accessible DIY project!
  • Natural edge worktops: thick natural edges on worktops and bar tops look stunning and are mesmerizingly tactile.
  • Waney edge windowsills: live edge windowsills are another great way of adding extra character and individuality to a home.
  • Live edge mantles: whether above a wood burner or open fire, a solid timber mantel piece creates a striking focal point, and adding a live edge brings even more texture and natural character to the room.
  • Waney edge skirting: waney edge skirting is a rustic and character building choice for cottages, barn conversions or timber frame homes, beautifully complementing existing timber in exposed beams or wooden flooring.

With just a little creative thinking, options for what to do with natural edge boards are endless. For inspiration, check what some of our other customers have done with their natural edge pieces!
