Sustainable, local, kiln dried firewood
Keeping you toasty through the cold Scottish winters
At Scottish Wood our firewood is produced entirely from offcuts and sawmill rejects, making it a sustainable way to keep cosy through the cold months!
All our firewood is kiln dried, making it a clean, reliable, and efficient fuel source for your home. Our firewood loads are made up of a mixture of larch and hardwoods, the ratio of which will vary from load to load depending on what we’ve been cutting in the sawmill.
We make bulk local firewood deliveries around Fife and surrounding areas, and our firewood is also available for collection – in bulk or bagged quantities.
If you have any questions, check out our firewood FAQs or get in touch.
Availability can vary, so please check this page for updates or subscribe to our firewood mailing list below.

Kiln-dried firewood logs
Available for collection or local delivery.
Important information about our firewood:
Due to the nature our firewood production process, smaller pieces of offcuts, shards, and wood waste (such as bark), will end up being scooped in amongst your firewood load. This is unavoidable – though some of the smaller pieces can make excellent kindling for starting your fire!
Collection
Collections are available from the sawmill during our opening hours. To arrange a collection, please make a pick-up appointment through our booking calendar.
Firewood collections can be handballed into your vehicle from our loading trough in the yard. If you’re collecting in the car, we recommend bringing bags or putting down a dust sheet to help with clean up later.
If you have a trailer, we can tip your firewood load straight in. Our forklift bucket is 2 meters wide, if your trailer is shorter than this, you’ll be able to hand load the overspill.
Tip for when you come collect your firewood
We recommend bringing a couple of carrier bags to collect some of the smaller pieces to use as kindling.
Delivery
We make local firewood deliveries, charged at £4 per mile from our site (KY12 8HB), with a minimum charge of £15.
We deliver our firewood via transit tipper, and there must be space in your driveway/on your property for our truck to approach and tip.
To arrange a firewood delivery, please use our order form.
Tip to get ready for our delivery
We recommend laying down a tarp or dust sheet for our driver to tip the firewood onto – this will make it easier to scoop up the leftover splinters and bark when you’re cleaning up.
Kiln-dried sawmill offcuts
This is unavailable until further notice. You might find it in small bags at the timber shop, please call in advance if you want to confirm availability.
Our kiln dried sawmill offcuts are a popular and economic source of fuel for your fireplace, made up of varying widths and lengths of up to 12”.
Our sawmill offcuts are produced as waste pieces from the timber yard. Most of our waste timber remains onsite to fuel our own biomass system, however any excess is sold as offcut grade firewood that is perfect for wood-burners, BBQs and fire pits!
What makes our firewood sustainable?
At Scottish Wood, the majority of our firewood is made from slabwood – a by-product of the sawmilling process. When logs are processed into beams, boards, or cladding, the rounded outer sections (the slabwood) of the tree are removed. This is considered a waste product which we turn into firewood.
By turning our slabwood into firewood, we make full use of each tree. The high-quality parts of the log go on to serve long-term, carbon locking purposes as sawn and processed timber, while the offcuts become a useful, efficient fuel source.

Firewood FAQs
How many logs do I get in a 1.5m3 load?
Both our kiln-dried firewood logs and our sawmill offcuts are sold as a loose scoop from our forklift, with a 1.5m3 bucket. This equates to a little over 2x standard builders bags.
What’s the difference between kiln-dried and seasoned firewood?
Seasoned firewood is dried naturally over time, usually outdoors, and can take a year or more to reach a suitable moisture content. Kiln-dried firewood is dried in a controlled kiln environment, allowing moisture to leave the timber more quickly and consistently.
Kiln drying ensures the logs are ready to burn when you receive them, with predictable quality and performance.
Why is kiln-dried firewood better to burn?
Kiln-dried logs light more easily, burn hotter, and produce less smoke than unseasoned or poorly seasoned wood. With less moisture in the timber, more energy is released as heat rather than being used to evaporate water.
This makes kiln-dried firewood more efficient, cleaner to burn, better for your stove and chimney, and generally more comfortable for indoor use.
Is your firewood “Ready to Burn”, and what does that mean?
Yes – all our firewood meets the UK Ready to Burn standard, meaning it has a moisture content of below 20%, which is now a legal requirement for firewood sales in the UK.
Ready to Burn logs burn more efficient than unseasoned green wood and emit less smoke and few emissions. This makes them better for your health, reduces environmental impact, and reduced the maintenance needed on your chimney and fireplace.
Hardwood vs softwood firewood
Our firewood loads are made up of a mixed blend of hardwood logs and larch, depending on what’s being processed in the sawmill at the time.
Hardwoods (broadleaf trees) are denser and tend to burn more slowly than softwoods – giving a longer-lasting, steady heat. Softwoods (conifer trees) usually light more quickly and burn faster.
Larch is a softwood, but stands apart from many other softwood species due to its density. Larch has a high calorific value, higher even than some hardwoods, and it produces a strong heat and a good flame when kiln-dried. This makes larch an excellent firewood material.
